Yarynchyna O. Ukrainian Folk Recruits’ and Soldiers’ Songs: Genre Peculiarity

The history of the determined genre study is considered in the work. The main stages of its fixation and scientific comprehension are observed. Changes in the understanding of separate aspects of this folk song phenomenon are followed. Social-political context of formation and existence of recruits’ and soldiers’ songs are described. Its significance for genre research is mentioned. The samples are considered in the thesis according to the main plot-thematic groups of compositions. Typical motifs and characters are analyzed. Genre characteristic of recruits’ and soldiers’ songs is presented. Their peculiarities are determined. The features inherent for recruits’ and soldiers’ songs are defined in the examples of various genres on the base of analysis of a considerable mass of texts of ritual and non-ritual song works. It is realized on the level of motifs, themes, plots, forms of reality representation, system of characters, symbols, etc.
