The dissertation is devoted to the study of the viability of Betula pendula Roth in the conditions of Kryvyi Rih аrea, namely the influence of vehicle exhaust gases and harmful emissions from industrial enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex on the morpho-anatomical and physiological parameters of the studied species and the peculiarities of the settlement of B. pendula on the Kryvyi Rih аrea iron ore dumps and the formation of local populations thereon. Іt is established deterioration of the life status of B. pendula, decrease of biometric parameters of trees with increasing level of technogenic pollution. Changes were also found in the morpho-anatomical and physiological parameters of the leaf under Kryvyi Rih conditions, reflecting the level of contamination at other growth sites. It is noted that B. pendula is actively inhabiting and propagating by seed in the iron ore dumps of Kryvyi Rih аrea, forming local populations. It has been reported that technogenically disturbed landscapes in B. pendula show a change in life form: porous, few- and many-stemmed individuals appear. On four iron ore dumps of Kryvyi Rih аrea, were found by age structure, 10 young population loci and 1 ripening, 8 of which are of prosperous type and 3 are depressive. It has been found that B. pendula forms a superficial root system in the conditions of dumps (0–30 cm). High sensitivity of the generative sphere of B. pendula to the influence of pollutants of technogenic origin has been established, which leads to a decrease in the morphometric parameters of pollen, its quality, anomalies spectrum and their total quantity, and subsequently to a deterioration of the sowing qualities of seeds.
