Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the development of the theoretical foundations of the formation of a slag skull on the converterslag and to the development of a resource-saving technology for modifying the converter slag and blowing the latter onto the unit lining using a new design of a multi-tiered skull lance. In the dissertation work, new scientifically substantiated theoretical and experimental results were obtained, which together are essential for solving the urgent problem of increasing the stability of the converter lining. Using physical and mathematical modeling, new information on the fluid dynamics of slag bath inflation in a converter with combined blowing, conditions for slag modification and the formation of a slag skull layer at different levels of the unit lining using a multi-tiered skull lance were achieved. Based on the results of theoretical substantiation, physical and mathematical modeling, pilot-industrial campaigns of smelting, a new design of a multi-tiered skull lance was developed, improved and introduced into industrial production, modes of applying a slag skull with its use and restoring a rational profile of the working space of a 250-ton converter. All this was due to redirection parts of the gas and slag flow into certain zones on the futures, providing an increase in technological, technical, and economic indicators of converter smelting.
