Essay

The object of study is the selection of Scots pine for resistance to root rot. The subject of the research is the evaluation of candidates for synthetic varieties-populations of Scots pine taking into account the resistance to the root rot pathogen. A set of features that directly or indirectly affect the resistance of Scots pine to root rot has been studied and systematized; the candidates for synthetic varieties-populations of Scots pine were assessed by a complex of signs taking into account criteria of resistance to the causative agent of the root rot; the prospects of using the seeds of candidates for synthetic varieties-populations of Scots pine in the North-East of Ukraine are determined; the features of planting material grown from tree seeds with different resistance to the root rot, using qualitative and quantitative characteristics are recognized. A systematic approach was used to the study of trees with different tree resistance in the root rot foci. The method of complex evaluation of varieties-populations of Scots pine was improved by adding the indicators responsible for resistance to the root rot pathogens including morphological, biometric, anatomical and biochemical evaluation characteristics of candidates for synthetic varieties-populations of Scots pine, which were presented for variety testing in Kharkiv region.
