The dissertation, based on the study of a wide range of sources and historiographical works, considers the process of origin and function of Polish narrative museums in the context of social changes of the second half of the XX – at the beginning of the XXI century. The main attention is paid to the history and preconditions of the modern Polish narrative museum, the theory and practice of its functioning, the role and functions of this cultural institution in society. The author analyzed the forms and methods of the modern narrative museum on the example of Polish museums. Changes in Polish museology and the spread of narrative museums coincided with global world processes - the broaden and popularization of narrative museums in the world. They become symbolic landmarks on the map of Europe, and dominant for the development of modern memory culture, they are directing and constructing memory and gaining increasing authority in the historical discussion. Dissertation aim is to reveal the process of concept formation of the narrative museum in the context of social and political transformations of the Republic of Poland in the 1980s - 2010s. The scientific issue of the research is the need to establish a theoretical knowledge base on the development of the history of the modern Polish narrative museum and analysis of the place it occupies in modern society. The subject of research is the processes that took place in the Polish museum space, systematization and interpretation of the processes of creation and functioning of Polish narrative museums and an attempt to compare them with the practice of museum work in Ukraine. In the dissertation comprehensively studied historiography and source base on the origin and functioning of Polish narrative museums; for the first time comprehensively studied the causes and preconditions of the narrative museum phenomenon; for the first time comprehensively analyzed the forms and methods of functioning of a modern narrative museum on the example of the newest Polish museums; for the first time researched and evaluated the role and place of the modern narrative museum in the society; for the first time analyzed the effectiveness of forms of museum work in terms of different social models; for the first time justified and proved the necessity of changes in the approaches to the construction of modern narrative museums, their expositions and museum work in general.
