The object of research is the improvement of the system of protection of winter wheat from spike pests. The purpose of the research is to improve the system of protection of winter wheat from ears pests, taking into account the peculiarities of their biology, cultivation agricultural technology and the resistance of varieties in the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Research methods are generally accepted and special methods in agricultural entomology and plant protection: field, laboratory, calculation, statistical. As a result of the implementation of the main scientific provisions of the dissertation, winter wheat varieties with high resistance to ears pests were identified: wheat thrips and cereal aphids - Mironivska ranniostyhla, Smuglyanka, Monotyp, Oberih Mironivskiy; wheat thrips - Remeslivna, Natalka, Legenda Mironivska; aphids - Bogdana, Dostatok, Svitanok Mironoivsky, Mirlena. These varieties are the basic elements for the development of an integrated system of protection of winter wheat, as well as valuable genetic sources for the creation of a new initial breeding material with resistance against ears pests in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Scientific and methodological recommendations for the protection of winter wheat crops against ears pests have been developed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in solving an urgent scientific problem of establishing the features of the distribution and harmfulness of ears pests on winter wheat crops and improving measures to control their numbers, taking into account the genetic resistance of varieties, elements of cultivation technology and the use of plant protection products. For the first time in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine: the species composition of the entomocomplex of winter wheat pests has been clarified; the features of the seasonal dynamics of the number, population and harmfulness of ears pests were revealed, depending on the resistance of winter wheat varieties and individual elements of the cultivation technology; the influence of damage to the ear by pests on yield, sowing and main indicators of grain quality of winter wheat varieties has been determined; differentiated varieties of winter wheat for resistance to cereal aphids and wheat thrips; the technical effectiveness of insecticides against ears pests was established when used on various varieties of winter wheat. The elements of the system for protecting winter wheat from spike pests have been improved in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.
