Essay

This work is dedicated to mathematical modeling of self-assembly of nanoparticles, decorated with liquid crystalline and photosensitive groups, into ordered morphologies depending on their molecular architecture details and impact of external fields. The paper provides conditions for: formation of optical-uniaxial columnar morphology for applications in nanoelectronics and optics; photo-controllable self-organization of the monodomain smectic morphology in order to optimize the synthesis of such phase and the subsequent formation of liquid crystalline and photosensitive elastomers on its basis; optimal surface distribution of ligands on the surface of nanoparticles in order to form catalytically active gels with high productivity; optimal adsorption of nanoparticles on surfaces modified with liquid crystal polymer brushes, in order to form new (incl. photo-controllable) composite materials.
