Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the investigation of atomic structure of metallic disordered systems (DS): melts and amorphous alloys. A unified complex of X-ray diffraction methods and computer simulation procedures, which makes it possible to study the peculiarities of space arrangement of atoms and to establish a link with physical properties, is suggested. A number of liquid and amorphous metallic systems have been extensively investigated and the conclusion about the type of the structure and structural transformation in those materials has been made. It has been recognized that metallic DS are microheterogeneous in their structure. The statistics of types of atomic ordering and interatomic cavities is obtained using formalisms of coordinational polyhedra and angular correlations. The crystal-like as well as noncrystalline clusters and free volume zones considered as intercluster areas have been identified in DS. The role of boundaries (both outer and internal boundaries) in forming DS structure ha s been studied.
