Essay

The thesis is based on experimental investigations of the buckling of cylindrical shells carried out on high-qualitiy specimens with the aim of widening and making more precise the understanding of the bukling mechanism and factors determining critical states of real elastic unstiffened (US) and longitudinally stiffened (SS) circular cylindrical shells under static compression. Experimental estimation of applicability of current theories to prediction of the carrying capasity of real US and SS have been given, there are proposed new models of buckling of US. Recommendations have been elaboreted for making more precise the stability theory for US and SS, for assigning dangerous loads and safety factors by stability for US. The results were used in SDO "Yuzhnoye", JSC "Dnipronaftoproduct", "Zaporozhnaftoproduct".
