Essay

Theoretical footing for hydrological and topological analysis of river systems including establishing an hierarchy of their basic components is developed and substantiated. Numerical range of orders for the main rivers of the region as well as for four topologic parameters (coefficients of bifurcation, length, catchment area as well as slope ratio) are calculated. The fifth regularity of a river system structure being considered in the form of dependence of watercourse confluence corners on the level of hierarchy is suggested. The system of background indices for catchment basins is developed and zoning of the region is performed on its basis. A new variant of the formula for computation of wave-crest speed at rainfall flood is put forward by the author. Recovery of the missing values of run-off descriptions is accomplished, recommendations as to renewal of the previously closed stream-gaging stations are made. Changes in the chart of the operator formulae by E.D. Gopchenko for computation of the maximum modules of storm run-off are made. The tendencies of change in liquid-water content in the minor rivers of the region are explored. A conclusion in relation to the water encroachment phase on greater part of the territory of the Ukrainian Carpathians is drawn.
