Essay

The Floquet scattering matrix theory for the quantum transport in periodically driven mesoscopic systems is systematically developed. In such systems a dc current can be generated even without a bias. The temperature dependence of a generated current was analyzed. The energetics of quantum pumps was analyzed in detail. The current generated in a ring-like system due to a dynamical drive and/or a magnetic flux was considered.
