Essay

Aiming to refine criteria of stratigraphic subdivision and correlation it was studied Carboniferous sediments in Ukraine and fossil remains of Cnidaria phylum in particular. On the basis of biostratigraphic and litho-facies analyses it was revealed main trends in evolution of Cnidariae, temporal and spatial distribution of biohermal build-ups, zones of stratigraphic hiatuses and unconformities, and cherty formations. The results obtained are recommended to apply by researchers and explorers to improve existing stratigraphic charts of Carboniferous sequences and to be implemented into prospecting for oil and gas and developing of promising exploration trends for other mineral resources.
