Essay

A regional macrofaunal zonal scheme for Upper Cretaceous sediments of the studied territory has been created for the first time. The biozonal scales of main groups of macrofauna for the regions of platform Ukraine have been worked out in detail. The recognition of the boundary between the Campanian and Maastrichtian by the first occurrence of the belemnite Belemnella lanceolata S c h a t s k. has been substantiated. The evolution of Late Cretaceous macrobenthos against a background of the geological development of the epicontinental sea basin and evolution of its habitat has been analyzed.
