The object is social, economic and public processes on the South of the Russian Empire in ХІХ - at the beginning of ХХ cent. The aim is to investigate the Mennonite entrepreneurship as social and economic phenomenon, to find out significance of the phenomenon in the modernization on the South of the Russian Empire (1789-1917). Methods: analytical, systematisation, inductive, deductive, structural, functional, social model forming, discretional, comparative, chronological, statistical. It has presented the phenomenon of the Mennonite ethnic entrepreneurship as a factor of the economic development and modernization processes on South of the Russian Empire. It was found out the main branches of the Mennonite entrepreneurship, counted out the part of the Mennonite productivity in mill and machine-building industries. The list of the enterprises was completed. Application sphere is education.
