Essay

This habilitation thesis is devoted to the investigations of the electronic quasiparticle excitations in graphene and nodal excitations in high-temperature superconductors. The analytical expressions for both diagonal and off-diagonal ac and dc conductivities of graphene placed in an external magnetic field applied perpendicular to graphene's plane are derived. It was predicted that the Hall conductivity in graphene is quantized with a filling factor ± 4 (n+1/2), n=0,1,… The ultimate experimental proof of the existence of the Dirac fermions in graphene comes from the observation of the unconventional quantum Hall effect in 2005.
