Essay

In the dissertation there are the results of historico-analytical research of processes of genesis and coming into being of plants physiology as an independent scientific discipline on the territory of Ukraine at end of XVIII century to the beginning of ХХ one. The national history of phytophysiology is also depicted in the work. The facts which characterize the basic lines of the development of native science as for the plants vitality are shown in the dissertation. Y.V. Baranetzkiy was the founder of this science in Ukraine. He created the first laboratory of physiology and anatomy of plants in Kyivs'ky University of St.Volodymir. Systematic researches were also organized by him. There in the work the facts of formation of new scientific phytophysiological schools are shown, the founders of the mentioned schools were Y.V. Baranetzkiy (Kyivs'ky University), V.I. Palladin (Kharkiv University), V.A. Rotert (Novorosiys'ky University in Odessa), E.P. Votchal (Kyivs'ky Polytechnic University). They started the three trends of phytophysiology of plants - biochemical, biophysical and ecological. The most important events in the knowledge of the plants vitality and the formation of modern branches of phytophysiology to the beginning of ХХ century are shown. The role of native scientists in the research of photosynthesis, breathing, growth and movements, water regime, drought-resisting, mineral feeding is characterized. The important contribution of V.I. Palladin, E.P. Votchal, S.M. Bogdanov, V.M. Lubimenko, M.G. Holodnyi to learning of different aspects of plants life in historico-functional context is described. The periodical description of the development of plants physiology in Ukraine is given.
