Essay

This dissertation presents a comprehensive study of the flora of vascular plants in the Pivnichne Prychornomoria (Northern Black Sea Coastal Plain). The flora consists of 2,025 species, and 59 sub-species, which belong to 697 genera, 143 families, and five divisions. The history of botanical research in the Northern Prychornomoria region is reviewed. The specificities of the regional vascular flora are revealed on the basis of a systematic, geographic, biomorphological, ecological and eco-phytosocioligical analysis. The transformation of structures of flora due to synantropization is also examined. A territorial differentiation of flora has been conducted based on research of the specifics of both the flora's structures and synantropization processes in relation to different kinds of landscapes. The synantropic element of the flora has also been investigated: an analysis has been carried out; the degree of synantropization has been established; and specific features of synantropization processes have been revealed. The history of synantropization of regional flora is uncovered and current tendencies are defined. The sozological element of the flora is analyzed. The significance of archeological sites, cemeteries, and wind-breaks, canals and roads in the protection of the plant cover is highlighted. A model for a regional eco-net is developed. Proposals are made with respect to ecologization of the region with aim of preserving the phytodiversity.
