Essay

The thesis is a research paper concurrently studying the tradition and dynamics of Ukrainian oral heroic epos as a phased, cyclical and paradigmatic system. Based on Ukrainian epic and lyric-epic tradition (heroic fairy tales, legends, epic poems, Dumas, historical songs, as well as Cossack and recruit songs), the author reconstructed the stages of development; singled out the basic characteristics of the national heroic epos; and discovered that every new stage of the development of the oral epos arose in opposition to the one that preceded it, not as a continuation of a previous stage.
