Essay

This dissertation is intent on the determination of the geoelectrical characteristics of the Earth Crust and Mantle within the south-west part of the East-European Platform (EEP) and the Carpathians. Complex of applied 1D, 2D and the quasi-3D inversion programs makes it possible to indicate and define geoelectrical parameters of the low resistivity anomalies. Joint application of the magnetotelluric and magnetovariational soundings made it possible to specify the distribution of the geoelectrical parameters of the Earth Crust and Mantle for the depths reaching 700 km at the territory of the south-west part of the EEP and the Carpathians. Geoelectrical models of the Carpathians, Volyno-Podolian Plate, the Ukrainian Shield and Kirovograd Conductivity Anomaly for the depths reaching 40-80 km were calculated using 2D inversion. The plane distribution of the most conductive parts of the low resistive bodies in the Earth Crust was obtained using the quasi-3D inversion modeling within the Carpathian and the Kirovograd Anomaly regions. The experiments showed that the pure electron conductors cannot fully explain the low resistivity anomalies and a low content of fluids within the rocks is required for the explanation of the geoelectrical parameters of the low resistivity zones. Application of the complex of the geologic information and the geophysical data (including obtained geoelectrical characteristics) demonstrates possibility of the existence of the recent activization zone within the Kirovograd Anomaly area and made it possible to specify the effects of the zone of the recent activization and possible connection of the oil and gas deposits with this zone within the Basin area.
