Essay

The thesis is devoted to the experimental and theoretical investigations of optical and other physical properties of ferroics, namely: improper ferroelastics of halides family Cs2BX4 (B=Hg, Cd, X=Br, Cl), proper ferroelastics Cs2Bi3I9, ferroelectrics Sn2P2S6, and family of borates (BaB2O4, Li2B4O7, SrB4O7 and PbB4O7); to analyze their acoustooptical parameters in relation with their ferroelastic phase transitions. The principles for classification of acoustooptic materials in relation with their ferroelastics phase transitions have been developed. It is claimed that the crystals of different ferroelastics materials, especially proper ferroelastics, are among the most effective acoustooptical materials.
