Essay

The dissertation proves the concept of wetland-genesis under conditions of postglacial territories and the territory of wetland functioning in terms of hydrological system as a result of complex research of wetlands in Central Europe within the boundaries of non-mountainous regions of Poland and Ukrainian Polessia. The author developed a principal scheme and research algorithms of functional structures of hydrological organization of wetland geosystems. Also, the author developed geo-informational methodology of distant identification of wetlands and their state diagnostics according to optical and radar satellite graphic captures. Besides that, the author created a geo-informational cartographical model of wetland expansion across the postglacial territories of Ukraine and Poland. Moreover, the author has developed a new hydrodynamic classification of wetlands in terms of its nature and hydraulic connection with underground waters and for the first time ever has proved the hydrologic-hydro chemical semantics of virgin wetlands. Diagnostic criteria comprise types of wetland sediments, kinds of water nourishment, availability of surface water, hydrogen water index, oxide-restoring environment potential, and water mineralization.
