Essay

For the first time the physicochemical fundamentals of the formation of composites based on transition metal oxides, which are highly effective catalysts of the oxidation of H2, CO and CH4 in the complete oxidation of gas mixtures with an excess of oxygen were formulated and optimum conditions for the formation of the active surface were found. The high activity of the composites obtained by the hydrogen reduction of simple and complex oxides of transition metals (V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W) in the presence of platinum metal (Pt, Pd) is caused by the oxygen defects, which are produced in the surface layer at the formation of the composite. These defects adsorbed weakly bonded oxygen that is active in catalysis.
