Essay

The object of study: trees with decorative stem wood in natural and artificial forest stands. The objective of study: to establish silvicultural and ecological characteristics of growth and development of forest stands with sycamore "birdseye", sycamore, European beech and Common ash "wave-grained", to characterize morphological features of trees, anatomical and physical differences of wood, to develop models of their diagnosis, criteria for determining the quality of decorative wood and measures for conservation and restoration of their forestry potential. The methods of investigation: analytical, descriptive and systematic, silvicultural, forest inventory, wood science, qualimetry, mathematical statistics. Scientific novelty. It is for the first time: the theoretical basis and criterial system diagnosing trees with decorative wood were processed; the classification of timber by placing wood fibers was substantiated, the classification of the wood texture was worked out; the qualimetry scheme of decorative wood and criteria for determining the quality class timber were developed; the scheme of the silvicultural-ecological distribution of biogroup trees with decorative wood and measures for their conservation and restoration were proposed. Practical significance. The results of research have been implemented in the curricula of Ukrainian National Forestry University, Vinnitsa regional management of forestry and hunting as well as SC "Berehomet forestry". The fields of application: forestry and wood processing.
