The thesis presents a summary and solution of the topical issue of pediatric neurosurgery - enhancement of treatment of infants with brain tumours with due regard to anatomotopographic and histomorphological peculiarities of tumours, possibilities of surgical and combined treatment, the patients' life quality and their life expectancy. Based on the study of epidemiological, anatomotopographic and histostructural peculiarities of brain tumours in infants, the analysis of clinical presentation characteristic of infants with brain tumours of different histostructure and localization was performed. Comparative assessment of the effectiveness of surgical treatment of tumours of different localization, malignancy and histostructure, depending on the radicality of operation, was carried out. A number of prognostic factors exerting influence on the surgical treatment results and survivability of infants with brain tumours were determined. Indications and contraindications to various types of surgical treatment in infants with brain tumours were determined and introduced. The policy of brain tumour treatment in infants was developed. The follow-up data, depending on the extent of treatment, life expectancy and quality of life, were studied on the basis of extensive factual material. The study of brain tumours in infants, the rate of which is steadily growing, has shown the peculiarities of their localization, histobiological forms, clinical presentations, therapeutic approach, the results of treatment. However, this problem requires further research and elaboration of their occurrence prevention.
