Essay

The physical and chemical factors, which determine the mechanisms of membrane protein or cysteine peptide interaction with lipid membranes, have been elucidated. A series of new methodological approaches and methods of optical spectroscopy have been designed and applied to facilitate the evaluation of the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of the interactions of biologically relevant compounds (BRC) with lipid membranes (peptide-lipid interaction of cysteine and hydrophobic peptides and protein-lipid interaction of membrane proteins), and, also, to facilitate the study of physical and chemical properties and structure of lipid membranes and BRC. The nature and efficiency of the primary photophysical and photochemical processes, occurring in the excited state of several fluorescent dyes, fluorescencent physiologically active compounds and labeled with organic fluorophores BRC, have been studied. The methods, designed and applied in the dissertation, can be used in clinical diagnostics, medico-biological research, in biology, in biochemistry.
