Object of research are sarcopenia and osteoporosis; aim is an in-depth research of generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength and function and their relation to bone mineral density and quality, as well as an attempt at developing a system of diagnostics, prevention and treatment of sarcopenia and osteoporosis in older women; methods are general and clinical, questionnaires, anthropometry, dynamometry, functional tests, instrumental , biochemical, assessment the dietary habits, statistical; novelty and results - firstly normative parameters of lean mass and trabecular bone score were established for Ukrainian healthy women of various ages, pre-sarcopenia diagnostic criterions using dual X-ray absorptiometry were developed for the older women; firstly frequency of sarcopenia in Ukrainian healthy older women and depending on the bone mineral density and its quality was determined, firstly the new data on mechanisms of development of sarcopenia and the impact of various factors on lean mass in Ukrainian women depending on age were presented, the influence of various factors on trabecular bone score was studied in Ukrainian older women, firstly methodology of biological age determination of musculoskeletal system based on parameters of dual X-ray absorptiometry was suggested in Ukrainian women, firstly features of body composition, bone mineral density and trabecular bone score in Ukrainian older women depending on presence of osteoporotic vertebral deformations were established, firstly the role of vitamin D and physical therapy in the correction of skeletal muscle changes in postmenopausal women was determined, the influence of anti-osteoporotic drugs on trabecular bone score in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis was studied; it is introduced in clinical practice of department of age-related changes of locomotor apparatus of clinic of SI "D. F.
