Essay

The work presented in this dissertation has as its objective the experimental study of the interaction of light with noble metal nanoparticles via localized surface plasmons and collective excitations in complex nanoparticle systems, and also with nanoparticles that possess localized magnetic properties (superparamagnetics). The ratio between the diameter of noble metal nanoparticles and their albedo was determined in visible and near IR spectral range. The new type of electromagnetic excitation in 2D silver nanoparticle array caused by interaction between adjacent nanoparticles was discovered. It was found experimentally that light scattering pattern by superparamagnetic nanoparticles depends on the mutual orientation of the magnetic moment associated with each nanoparticle, polarization plane of incident light and the direction of external magnetic field.
