Essay

The thesis is the first substantial systematic study of folklore prose of Ukraine assisted by practical insight into cognitive science. The theme of the research was determined by the attention in the realm of the Humanities, folklore studies in particular, to the investigation of interethnic communication problems. The present research supported by the literary works of folk literature assisted by the insight into cognitive science gives a possibility to broaden the methodological basis of folklore studies, research mechanisms of finite creation, preservation and transfer of cognitive structures, fixed in folklore. The cognitive approach in folklore studies of folklore texts increases the possibility of researching the processes of accumulation, controversy, retransmission and production of folkloristic knowledge. The tendency of modern folkloretext-making to short prose forms production has been researched. Classical prose genres, written in the XIX - XX centuries, became minor in folklore repertoire (retelling, legend), the fairytale has transmitted primarily through intermediaries (books, media) and the change in the method of transmission haspartly modified its function (childrenaudience has become its main addressee). It was studied that deployed narratives are gradually moving away from the practice of oral communication, coherent narratives give way to fragmented narrative clich?s, text-signals that give information improperly as it's indicated in the primary source.
