Essay

Scientific studies of Crimean Tatar folklore, an emigrant song in particular, started in the late ХІХ and early ХХ centuries. The important contribution to its fixation and investigation was made by A. Olesnitsky, Ya. Sherfedinov, A. Refatov, Yu. Bolat, Ibr. Bakhshysh, F. Aliev, and A. Veliev. However the artistic world of the Crimean Tatar national emigration song hasn't been the subject of thorough analysis yet. Crimean Tatar emigrant song develops on the basis of ancient folklore traditions. Distant, often dangerous trips together with the concomitant severe trials are considered a peculiar feature of the plot structure of folklore epos, which is obviously perceptible in mythological stories and is characteristic of such an epic genre as a fairy tale. Motifs of hard forced travelling are especially typical of destans, which are defined as wide epic stories. The most famous examples of the Crimean Tatar national epic story are destans entitled "Chora-batyr", "Ashyk Garip", "Kozyukurpech", etc. Themes of separation, sorrow, difficult grievous situations present in the emigrant song are also seen in Crimean Tatar folklore lyric poetry, which has a maqam as one of its oldest genre. Here thrilling lyricism and unusual emotional saturation of the artistic language becomes an integral part of the deep dramatic effect that arrives at the verges of tragedy, with sensuous expressivity naturally combining with philosophical meditation.
