Essay

The mechanisms of N-hydroxyphthalimide action in the radical chain processes of polymerization and oxidation are established. It is shown that N-hydroxyphthalimide acts as initiator in the polymerization of vinyl monomers, and NHPI catalyzes the processes of the saturated substrates oxidation with molecular oxygen. It was established of factors that influence to the direction, rates, and selectivity of radical-chain processes with the participation of N-hydroxyphthalimide. An array of data was obtained on the rate constants of hydrogen atom detachment reactions by a phthalimide-N-oxyl radical from the C-H bonds of organic compounds, as well as the addition of a radical to double bonds of vinyl monomers. The obtained results are the scientific basis for creating effective, environmentally safe technologies for obtaining valuable oxygen-containing products, as well as polymer materials with a complex of important physico-chemical properties.
