The patterns and specifics of the formation of the national identity of the Czechs, Slovaks and Lusatian Serbs, their cultural and national development in the process of national revival have been researched in the dissertation. The aim of the research is to highlight the patterns and specifics of the formation of the national identity of the Western Slavs, their cultural and national development in the process of national revival of the Czechs, awakening of the Slovaks and Lusatian Serbs at the end of the 18th century -in the first half of the 19th century. To achieve the goal, the author has identified the 37following tasks: to figure out the state, completeness and credibility of the coverage of the problem of formation of the national identity of Western Slavs during the period of their revival-awakening in the national and foreign historiography; to characterize the state of the source base and its information capacity; to trace the history of the Czechs, Slovaks and Lusatian Serbs in the context of Pan-European history, the birth of national ideologies and the process of evolution of the national identity of Slavic peoples; to substantiate the new approach to the concepts of "national revival", "national awakening" and "ethnic awakening"; tofind out about the significance and place of the revival -awakening in the processes of formation and growth of national consciousness, the growth of self-awareness, the cultural, ideological, political and organizationalconsolidation of the Western Slavs.
