The thesis is the first comprehensive historical research of Britain’s participation in establishment and development of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union in 1990–2016 in the context of latest transformations of international relations system. The historical evolution position of British society and leading political parties of the UK on development of foreign policy dimension of European integration in the 1940s–1980s is highlighted. The analysis of historical role of the kingdom in process of forming mechanisms of the European Communities foreign policy has been analyzed. Peculiarities of public opinion and position of leading political parties of Great Britain in 1940s–1980s regarding European integration and its foreign policy segment are analyzed. For the first time in domestic historiography: periodization of Britain’s participation in the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union with the justification of relevant periods is proposed; historical features of the United Kingdom’s participation in the EU’s Eastern European policy on the basis of introduction of new archival materials into the scientific circulation are highlighted; peculiarities of the official position and role of Great Britain in reaction of the European Community to Russian-Ukrainian conflict are highlighted; place and role of the British military-industrial complex in military technical cooperation of states of the Unity are revealed; experience of participation the United Kingdom in military-humanitarian actions of the European Union was studied. Peculiarities of the British influence on fixation the Common Foreign and Security Policy in constituent treaties of the European Union are revealed. A comparative analysis position of Great Britain on the CFSP with positions of France and Germany, an assessment of the role of US-British relations in development of European Foreign and Security Policy are presented. Historical features of the East European Policy of the United Kingdom, formation of its position on Ukraine’s European integration in the context of implementation the CFSP and enlargement of the EU are studied. Peculiarities of British approach to formation the CSDP in view of reform the Atlantic Alliance and establishment of EU-NATO relations are analyzed.
