Dissertation is devoted to the research of issues of prevention of unlawful appropriation of a passport or other essential personal document. The current state of scientific research on the problem of prevention of unlawful appropriation of a passport or other essential personal document is analyzed. Separately, is paid attention to determining the subject of criminal encroachment, for which an analysis of current legislation and case law was carried out in order to allocate the list of documents that can be attributed to an essential personal document. The dissertation considers the main tendencies, mechanisms and approaches to crime prevention in foreign countries. A comparative analysis of international legal measures of prevention of unlawful appropriation of a passport or other essential personal document. On the basis of studying of the criminal legislation of Georgia, Germany, Sweden, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Estonia was established that in the above-mentioned countries in terms of legislation provided under corpus delicti subject of which is a passport or other essential personal document. In addition, the sanctions of foreign countries for crimes related unlawful appropriation of a passport or other essential personal document were investigated. Effective technologies and methods of protection of passports and other essential personal documents used in foreign countries are revealed, recommendations on further introduction of such technologies into the legal reality of Ukraine are given.
