Kotsiumbas O. Academic gymnasium in Lviv: organization, structure and activity (1849-1939)

This dissertation is devoted to deep analysis of organization, structure and activity of Academic gymnasium in Lviv during 1849-1939 years. The principles of the gymnasium's functioning have been thoroughly analyzed in the conditions of the legal legislation of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and interwar Poland; the structure of the educational institution, its transformation from an eight-year classical gymnasium into a four-year one and a two-year lyceum after the reform of 1932 have been characterized. The educational process has been studied: curricula and programs, textbooks, the procedure of entrance and final exams, etc .; the national and social condition of gymnasium students has been analyzed; the management and teaching staff of the gymnasium have been characterized. The educational principles and rules of conduct in the educational institution have been clarified. It has been established that the gymnasium was founded within the structure of Lviv University. Some high school teachers were university lecturers at the same time, high school graduates entered the university without exams, provided their successful passing of final examinations at the gymnasium.The material and technical base of the gymnasium has been characterized - the functioning of the library, classrooms, the procedure for creating Ukrainian-language textbooks. The activity of circles in the gymnasium has been analused - educational-research, sports, scouts, which united the gymnasium youth in accordance with the interests and abilities.
