Sakhno O. The Place ofFilmmaking in the Processes of National and Cultural Development of the Soviet Ukraine in the 1920s-1930s.

The object of the dissertation research is the film industry in the USSR as a manifestation of the national and cultural life of the 1920s – 1930s. The subject of the research is the peculiarities of development, the achievements of Ukrainian film directing, its role in the national and cultural processes of the 1920s - 1930s. The aim: to find out the role of the cinema in the socio-cultural processes of the USSR in the 1920s – 1930s and to trace the influence of the Ukrainian renaissance and the strengthening of Soviet totalitarianism on the film directing. The results of the research: the new arrays of archival, act, narrative sources, periodicals have been introduced into scientific circulation for characterization of socio-political and national-cultural processes in the Ukrainian film industry. It was carried out a comprehensive analysis of the creative activity of the film directors and their place in the national and cultural processes of Soviet Ukraine in the 1920s – 1930s. The fact of the resistance of the Ukrainian party leadership and the local administration against the liquidation of the autonomous system of the film industry, its political and national-cultural sources and mechanisms have been revealed. The new information about the life and creative activity of Ukrainian film directors, in particular – O. Dovzhenko, G. Stabovуy was revealed on the basis of the first involved archival materials. The motivation of activity, creative practices and the influence of invited directors from other republics on Ukrainian artists are shown. The practical significance of the dissertation research lies in the possibility of using its provisions and conclusions in the making a training courses of the modern history of Ukraine, the research and development of the special courses of the history of Ukrainian culture, the creating a comprehensive works of the history of Ukrainian cinema and their popularization.
