Kovalev M. Historiography of theoretical principles and social practice of the Makhnovist movement

The genesis and stages of formation of the world historiographical complex of scientific literature on the history of the Makhnovist movement were analyzed, the state and features of modern historiographical discourse on the ideology and social practice of the insurgents were revealed. The first attempt was made to analyze and systematize all the main works of the source complex on the history of Makhnovism in Slavic and Romano-Germanic languages for the last century. The scientific achievements of the world historiography of the anarcho-Makhnovist phenomenon of the 1920s and 1980s, the study of the history of the Makhnovist phenomenon in modern Ukrainian literature, and the foreign historiography of the Makhnovist movement for the last 30 years were consistently considered. The main conceptual and methodological approaches to the study of the Makhnovist insurgent movement in Ukraine were identified and characterized. The most important achievements of the authors of historical studies of the insurgent movement under the leadership of N. Makhno were established and their contribution to the study of the topic was personified. The state and features of the study of the problem of the influence of social-economic factors and various political forces on the formation of the worldview, program and activities of the Makhnovists were determined. The scientific receptions of the social-political practice and military path of the Makhnovists, their relations with various political forces and ethnic groups were studied. The comparative analysis and reflection of the image of N. Makhno in Ukrainian and foreign scientific literature was conducted. The main directions of the historiography of the insurgent movement led by N. Makhno in the Western countries according to the ideological preferences and methodological approaches of the authors were outlined and characterized. Guided by the principle of coherence, the process of increment of historical knowledge was traced, the most characteristic gaps in the study of the problem of the Makhnovist movement were outlined. The understanding of the current state, tendencies and peculiarities of the development of the problems of the Makhnovist movement in world historiography was deepened and the range of issues that need further scientific understanding was determined.
