Object of research: regional press of Chernihiv region (1929–1933). Subject of research: the use of the regional press of the USSR in the process of large-scale propaganda influence on the inhabitants of Chernihiv region (1929–1933). The aim of the study is to elucidate the characteristics and features of the development of the local press in the Chernihiv region in 1929–1933 and its use by the communist totalitarian regime as a means of propaganda. Research results: materials on the coverage of specific economic and political campaigns of the communist regime in the newspapers were singled out and systematized. A comparative analysis of publications with archival documents was done. Materials from the local press of Chernihiv region in 1932–1933, which supplement the documentary base for studying the mechanism of the Holodomor-genocide crime, were systematized. The regional features of the robsilkor movement in the Chernihiv region in 1929–1933 were characterized. Linguistics and illustrative characteristics of the local press of Cherhihiv region of the mentioned period were singled out, the process of 1933 orthography implementation was traced in the newspaper publications. Practical role of the study: Research can be the basis for creating informational security courses and trainings. Based on the comparison of materials published in communist newspapers with other sources of information (archival materials, eyewitness accounts), the mechanism of distortion and falsification of facts through the print media is clearly traced. The scientific data collected in the dissertation can be used during the development of relevant topics on the history of Ukraine, special courses on the history of the press and conducting lessons on the history of Ukraine at secondary schools. The results of the study may also be useful for the development of special courses in history and local lore.
