Essay

The research is devoted to the problem of mobilization of male population to the armed forces in the period when two Ukrainian states came into being in November 1918 and defended their sovereignty during 1918-1920s. The scientific novelty of the research is in the fact that for the first time mobilization processes to the Ukrainian armed forces on the territory of the Eastern Galicia and Naddniprianschyna have been investigated, studied and reproduced. The basis for the research is made of archival sources, published documents and papers, reminiscences and periodicals, generalization of scientific literature of native and foreign authors. A large amount of data has been thought over using contemporary methodological ground. A comparative study of mobilization campaigns to the Galician Army and UPR Army and their results has been conducted. Unknown facts about mobilization actions on the territories under study have been reproduced and those which are not popular have been specified. The process of Ukrainian military unit formation in 1920 has been reconstructed as well as the influence of the Polish factor on this process has been illustrated. In the paper the issues of readiness of the Ukrainian population to do some service for the national armed forces at different stages of the armed struggle, its cooperation with armed units, reaction to the methods of forced involvement and desertion have been studied. The practical value of the paper is in conducting further scientific research into history of Ukraine, writing works on the military history of the Ukrainian revolution era of 1917-1921, teaching educational disciplines in history of Ukraine and military history, preparing educational manuals and guidance material and directly in doing socially educational work with the personnel of the military forces of Ukraine. The all mentioned can be achieved with the application of the obtained scientific results, wide data complex, proof and conclusions about the place and role of military mobilization campaigns in forming the armed forces of Ukrainians from Galicia and Naddniprianschyna.
