Shelestak L. Reserve officers training in civil higher educational institutions of Lviv (1944–1991)

The dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of the system of reserve officers training on an example of civil higher educational institutions of Lviv in the Soviet period, its legal and organizational bases, ideological influence, features of implementation, and realization. The system of the reserve officers training in civil higher educational institutions of Lviv in the Soviet period was thoroughly characterized and analyzed for the first time, in particular: the stages of the student military training, features of the theoretical course according to the training profiles, level of the practical training. Furthermore, military departments in the system of dual subordination were comprehensively studied, was attempted to outline the collective portrait of the department officer. Finally, the repressive function of military departments and their ideological and educational influence on students was explored and clarified the role of the student movement in reforming and liquidating the system of military training at the final stage of the existence of the Soviet Union. The actual material and conclusions of the work can be used in lecture courses on the modern history of Ukraine, history of higher education and higher educational institutions of Lviv, courses on the military history of XX century, in preparing special courses for students of humanities and military faculties of the higher educational institutions in Ukraine, studies on the history of military science and higher education, popular science works, textbooks, encyclopedic and reference books. Thus, launching reserve officers training in civil higher educational institutions of Lviv in the Soviet era was aimed not only at forming a trained officer reserve of the army spending less money and time than in military structures, but also to educate people getting higher education as patriots of the USSR.
