Essay

The dissertation is the result of comprehensive scientific and historical studies of education and science in Volyn region in 1964–1985. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the declaration of independence of Ukraine (1991) Ukraine inherited from the USSR Soviet system of education and science, which had its own individual characteristics and features. Some of them, in particular ideological and political, were rejected during the first years of independence. Subsequently, in the context of state reform of education and science, held by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the transformation process, which included the implementation of certain elements of Western European and American educational and scientific models and combining them with domestic (actually Soviet) system of education and science started. The reform of Ukrainian education and science has especially intensified since 2014 (after the Revolution of Dignity), and still continues. The current reform of education and science in Ukraine requires conducting a thorough analysis of the functioning of this branch in the past, taking into account the experience of 60’s – 80’s of the ХХ century, separation of positive and negative features of the Soviet educational and scientific systems for effective reform and establishment of qualitative education and science in Ukraine in the future, which leads to the relevance of this topic.
