Chedoluma I. Mykhailo Rudnytskyi: An Intellectual Biography (1889-1975).

This dissertation is the first systematic study of the biography of the Ukrainian liberal author and publicist Mykhailo Rudnytskyi (1889-1975). The research raises an issue that has not yet received systematic consideration in historiography – the phenomenon of Ukrainian liberalism through the prism of the biography of Mykhailo Rudnytskyi – a well-known writer, translator, publicist, journalist, and educator from a mixed Ukrainian-Jewish family. The cultural aspect in the consideration of liberalism in Ukraine is poorly understood, and the role of artists and cultural figures in this process has long been overlooked by research studies in Ukraine. The study is based on an extensive source base, including numerous unpublished materials from Ukrainian and North American archives. The results of the research and methodological approaches used in it can be used in studying the history of Ukrainian culture of the XX century, to write generalizing works on Western Ukrainian intelligentsia in the XX century, biographical works, and in compiling educational normative and special courses in educational institutions of Ukraine.
