Dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in specialty 081 – Law. National Academy of Internal Affairs, Kyiv, 2023. The dissertation study at the monographic level investigated the criminal procedural and criminological bases of the defense attorney's participation in criminal proceedings against minors. The dissertation is devoted to the development of the theoretical and legal principles of identification of a person based on video recording materials, the formation of scientifically based recommendations for increasing the effectiveness of identification of a person during the investigation of criminal offenses.To achieve the set goal, the following tasks were completed: the main stages of the formation of forensic identification of a person based on appearance, the genesis of the use of its results in criminal proceedings were highlighted; the state of scientific research on issues of identification of a person based on appearance has been clarified; the materials of the video recording were considered as a source of evidentiary information in criminal proceedings; video recording materials were analyzed as objects of forensic examination; the organizational and legal principles and features of collecting and using video recording materials during the investigation of criminal offenses are defined, recommendations are provided to optimize the regulatory and legal framework in this area; the possibilities of identifying a person based on his gait are outlined, practical recommendations are developed for such identification based on video recording materials, in particular, those obtained from video cameras of drones in martial law conditions; the state of automation of the process of identification of a person based on video recording materials in the Expert Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is characterized, suggestions are provided for the optimization of this process; the Expert Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the State Migration Service of Ukraine launched practical recommendations on the identification of a person based on video recording materials; the general provisions of the method of identification of a person based on the video recording materials during the forensic examination are formulated, the stages of its conduct are systematized. It has been established that law enforcement agencies often use video footage obtained from video surveillance cameras in order to establish an identity during the investigation of criminal offenses.In particular, 88.5% of the interviewed investigators answered that the use of video recording materials to identify the participants in the events allows to significantly increase the effectiveness of the investigation. The most common and most informative material evidence during the investigation of criminal offenses in this case is electronic (digital) evidence. It was determined that, in accordance with Articles 7 and 8 of the Law of Ukraine "On Forensic Expertise", the conduct of a portrait examination is regulated in the Instructions on the Appointment and Conduct of Forensic Examinations and Expert Research, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine dated October 8, 1998 No. 53/5 (as amended by the order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine dated December 26, 2012 No. 1950/5).
