Essay

The dissertation examines the topical issue of increasing the effectiveness of the watermelon selection process by studying collection samples based on a set of signs and properties. Screening and monitoring of watermelon raw material was carried out according to: components of the growing season, yield, content of dry soluble matter, resistance to diseases, according to gender, sources of valuable traits were identified. The peculiarities of the level of manifestation of correlations between the features of genotypes of different genetic organization have been established. The adaptive potential of the collection of F1 watermelon varieties and hybrids was determined. In addition, 10 new lines were created in co-authorship, for which Certificates of the sample of the plant gene pool of Ukraine were obtained for two new watermelon hybrids, which are entered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine and recommended for cultivation in the conditions of the Forest Steppe and Steppe. The completed research results are important for biological science and the agricultural sector of Ukraine, since new watermelon genotypes are the main factor for increasing the intensification of agricultural production
