The work is devoted to the substantiation of scientific and applied principles of the phenomenon of smart cities, conceptual understanding of the financial features of their successful positioning in the global environment, limitations and prospects for development in the post-crisis period in Ukraine. Based on the generalization of the existing theoretical work, the conceptual parameters of the phenomenon of smart cities are formed: the essence, components, factors and financial features of development. The evolution of global smart cities and its coverage in scientific research is studied. The key trends and financial aspects of the development of smart cities in the global economy are characterized.
