The dissertation is devoted to theoretical research and empirical study of the
problem of psychological features of hardiness of adolescents in difficult life
situations. The experimental work of part of the empirical research was carried
out during 2023-2024.
The ability to cope with difficult situations in life, adapt to them, quickly
recover, maintain a positive attitude and independently make the right decisions
are some of the key psychological aspects of the life of modern adolescents.
However, given the current events in Ukraine, which have been going on for the
third year in a row, namely active military actions throughout the territory of
Ukraine, caused by the illegal invasion of the aggressor state Russia, the least
protected category of the population - children - suffers. With the onset of the war
in Ukraine, sudden changes and life circumstances began to significantly affect
the hardiness of adolescents. Adolescence is a sensitive period of intense changes,
both physical and psychological, which increases the vulnerability of a young
person to stress and overcoming difficulties in difficult life situations.
At most, it is in adolescence that the foundation of life skills for the future
is formed, namely the ability to overcome difficulties and maintain internal
balance.
The need to study the hardiness of adolescents in the modern realities of war
is due to several factors that affect the ability of a modern teenager to adapt and
maintain psychological hardiness in stressful conditions. Early identification and
development of hardiness in adolescents can significantly improve the results of
a teenager's psychological adaptation to both current events and significantly
affect the future, social integration into new living conditions, schooling,
interaction with peers and parents.
In the first section, based on the theoretical study of the analysis of literary
sources and conceptual approaches to scientific psychological theories, the
concept of difficult life situations is analyzed. The essence of a number of
interrelated concepts with the definition of a dificcult life situation is revealed. In
addition, examples of difficult life situations that are often found in scientific
works within the framework of the paradigm of modern science are given. The

specific features of difficult life situations are analyzed and a number of specific
characteristics of such situations are identified that have the ability to influence a
person's mental state and behavior in everyday life in the long term. It is outlined
that the specific features are the unexpectedness of the occurrence of such
situations in a person’s life, the lack of ability to control the situation in full or in
part, intense emotional impact, uncertainty of consequences for the future, the
need to make decisions under stress, a decrease in hardiness and motivation, as
well as the need for adaptation. The factors of the emergence of difficult life
situations are identified. Difficult life situations appear under the influence of
various factors, sudden unpredictable changes in the life of an individual. It is
substantiated that a list of related meanings of “dificcult life situation” is used to
describe difficult life situations. For a deep analysis of the understanding of the
concept of “dificcult life situation”, the interpretation of the concepts of
“situation” and “life situation” is analyzed. Scientific approaches to the definition
of the concepts of “dificult life situation” and “ hardiness” are investigated.
Examples of the Laws of Ukraine are given, which describe a range of issues that
at the legislative level define “difficult life situations” and “adolescence”.
It is suggested that the modern definition of a difficult life situation will give
impetus to the disclosure of the internal resources of the individual's hardiness.
Emphasis is placed on factors that can significantly worsen or, conversely, change
a difficult life situation for the better. It is noted that difficult life situations are a
difficult life process that should be studied by age groups, gender, and
psychological processes. It is emphasized that the study of this issue takes place
in a wide range of issues, such as social, economic, communication, age, medical,
family, customs, and others. The author proposes a definition and a
comprehensive vision of the concept of a difficult life situation in its modern
understanding, taking into account the military events in Ukraine.
The concept of difficult life situations is studied, using scientific sources of
varieties of such situations as an example. The concept of difficult life
circumstances in which a person may find himself is considered. War, as an
organized armed conflict between states, is one of the most difficult life situations
in which both adults and adolescents can find themselves.
