Essay

On the basis of studies of the Ukrainian people three main stages in the process of development of the idea of social progress are defined. It has been established that in the period of Kyiv Rus the idea of social progress existed in the form of spiritual perfection of a man, which to a great extend was determined by the Christian religion. In the era of cultural and national revival the idea of civil society is being formed, which has as its basis the acknowledgement of the priority of law, equality of all citizens, limitation of the authority of the ruler. The third stage is the national idea as f factor of the creation of a sovereign state.
