3. Object of investigation: English proverbs Aims of investigation: to define the status of proverbs among communicative units, to identify their systematic and functional properties. Methods of investigation: onomaciological, comparative, contextual, speech act, descriptive, quantitative analyses. Theoretical results and scientific novelty: proverb modelling aspects are worked out; paradigmatic and syntagmatic properties of English proverbs are studied; the status of proverbs among untypical texts is defined; their structural-semantic organization is presented in the final list of patterns; textual modifications of proverbs are analyzed.
