Yefremova N. The semantic and Functional Features of Synonymic Oppositions of English Verbs

The dissertation deals with the investigation of semantic and functional characteristics of synonymic oppositions of English verbs. The attempt is made to build up the models of semantic oppositions of synonymous verbs. The structure of synonymic group is determined by the types of synonymic oppositions in it. The characteristics of distinctive features involved in describing the points of difference in the synonymic groups of English verbs are proved to be dependent on the nominative class these verbs belong to. The conditions of realization and neutralization of semantic oppositions of English synonymous verbs in texts are revealed. The list of semantic functions performed by synonyms is further completed with the semantic function of opposition.
