Essay

Certain interrelations between hypoxia tolerance of germinated seeds and seedlings and parameters of their oxygen consumption during flooding were found. Effect of oxygen defficiency on growth, respiration and protein synthesis in seedlings of cultivars differ in their resistance to this factor were studied. Conclusion about adaptive character of involvement of alternative oxidase at the initial steps of hypoxic state and a protective role of chaperones was made.
