Essay

The dissertation deals with the study of evolutional changes of man-made nature descriptions in the Englich fiction of the 18-20th centuries. Comprehensive compositional and structural as well as lexico-semantic analysis displayed general characteristics of textual forms and semantic modes of man-made nature descriptions typical of literary schools within the period. From a compositional and structural perspective changes of volume and structure of textual forms are investigated; from a lexico-semantic perspective semantic properties as well as lexico-stylistic means of their representation are analysed. Language means of description are proved to be influenced by textual functions, pragmatics and contents of a novel, the author's individual manner of writing and stylistic features of a certain literary period. The choice of literary description devices is determined by extralingual factors, cultural situation of the epoch and particularly by the interaction of literature with other arts.
